Maribeth Howell, O.P.
Professor of Biblical Studies at Aquinas Institute of Theology, 2007-
S.T.B., M.A. and S.T.L. (Biblical Studies), St. Paul University, Ottawa, Canada;
Ph.D and S.T.D. in Biblical Studies from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium.
In the early years of my life as a Dominican Sister of Adrian, I developed a love for the Scriptures, especially for the books of Psalms and Isaiah. It was to these two books that I was frequently drawn for prayer. Over the years my love for these texts, as well as for other books of the Bible has continued to deepen.
Prior to beginning full-time theological study, I pursued a degree in special education and taught children of multiple special needs at the Detroit School for the Deaf for a number of years. I learned a great deal about life and communication from those children!
Theological studies in Ottawa, Canada and Leuven, Belgium enriched my life tremendously, and it is my sincere hope that as a result of the education I have received, that I am able to share my delight in the study of the Word with others – whether that be in a traditional classroom setting, a workshop, or a day of reflection.
