Job Title: Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation - Ames, IA

Position Description:

12 Month Full-Time Position

Job Function: a) To foster a deep relationship with Jesus in the youngest members of our parish through the oversight and development of child formation and b) to assist the Director of Faith Formation in the task of adult evangelization and catechesis by providing formation to adult catechists, sponsor parents, and parents of children in our formation programs.

Major Responsibilities:

I. (15 Hours/Week) Mentor Catechists & Sponsor Parents
a. Gather, form, and train parishioners to become catechists through one-on-one discipleship and the principles and methods of The Evangelical Catholic
b. Gather, form, and train parishioners to become sponsor parents for families preparing their children for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion through one-on-one discipleship and the principles and methods of The Evangelical Catholic

II. (10 Hours/Week) Oversee Traditional Classroom Formation
a. Schedule sessions, order textbooks, support catechists in their needs and substitute teach as necessary
b. Organize and integrate Eucharistic adoration into the curriculum schedule
c. Organize bi-annual in-services for catechists

III. (10 Hours/Week) Oversee Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
a. Schedule sessions, maintain materials and support catechists in their needs
b. Serve as a catechist on a permanent or substitute basis as necessary
c. Organize bi-annual in-services and monthly social gatherings for catechists
d. Perform setup and teardown of atrium as necessary

IV. (5 Hours/Week) Coordinate Sacrament Preparation
a. Conduct bi-annual Learning Centers
b. Schedule and hold individual parent meetings at least twice a year
c. Plan and execute a day retreat for children prior to both First Reconciliation and First Communion based on the principles and methods of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
d. Collaborate with the Pastor to plan the liturgies for both First Reconciliation and First Communion

Required Qualifications:

Qualifications:

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in theology and/or catechetics or related field, or willing to work towards obtaining a Bachelor's degree in theology and/or catechetics. Two years ministerial experience. Level I certification in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or willing to undergo 90 hours of training for certification.

We are a Catholic parish of 1,500 families located in Ames, IA, home to Iowa State University and approximately 45 minutes north of Des Moines. We are a well-staffed parish with five employees in the faith formation office. We also have a PreK-5th grade school.

We are passionate about faith formation and evangelization. We are process-driven, not program-driven.
