Liturgy at Aquinas Institute

Liturgy is at the heart of study at Aquinas Institute of Theology. These gatherings of the Aquinas community serve to unite students, staff and faculty through prayer, and shape us more intimately into the Body of Christ.

The Aquinas community welcomes guests to its liturgical celebrations, which are held in the Aquinas Institute Chapel and are scheduled as follows when classes are in session:

Aquinas Institute Liturgical Schedule
Day Service Time
Monday Midday Prayer 11:30 a.m.
Tuesday Eucharist 11:30 a.m.

Prayer at Midday is celebrated as a modified format of the Liturgy of the Hours. On occasion, the Aquinas community will gather to celebrate morning or evening prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours. Typical components are liturgical songs, psalms, and a scripture reading with preaching, prayer intentions and the sign of peace. Preaching at these services is typically done by a vowed religious or lay person-among the faculty or students-in order to give them a rarely afforded opportunity to utilize their gifts. Students who have taken foundational courses in liturgy and homiletics can hone their preaching and liturgical leadership skills in our community worship.

On Tuesdays the Aquinas community celebrates the Eucharist. The ordained faculty of Aquinas Institute rotates on this schedule so that all have an opportunity to preside with the community.

The Sacrament of Penance is offered on an individual basis. Several of the priest-faculty are willing to administer the sacrament. Please contact a priest to schedule an appointment. Daily Eucharist and Reconciliation is celebrated at St. Francis Xavier (College) Church on the campus of Saint Louis University and at the Catholic Student Center at Washington University during the school year. The Archdiocese of St. Louis also maintains a list of parishes and their liturgical schedules.
