Laclede Groves is a long-term care facility for older adults with about 650 campus residents. It has all levels of care: independent living, assisted living, convalescent care, Alzheimer's and Medicare units. There is a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program on campus. A student doing SPM would interact with the CPE interns, the pastoral care staff, employees, residents, and families on a social, professional, and pastoral level.
*PPD test (TB) to be taken and the results received before SPM sessions begin.
*Each intern is required to have the Missouri criminal background screening completed with the results received before the semester begins.
*Illinois residents must also have the Illinois criminal background screening completed with the results received prior to the start of the semester.

Rev. Jeffery Scheer: I am an ordained pastor with the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LC-MS) and serve as a Chaplain and the Administrator for Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Lutheran Senior Services (LSS). I have been serving in this Older Adult context at Laclede Groves since 2004 and have a fondness for these brothers and sisters of faith as well as for those who are training to serve God’s people. I have found my experiences with other students from Aquinas to be rewarding and I have appreciated how they have contributed to the spiritual fabric of this senior living community. I would look forward to serving as your supervisor should you choose LSS as you SPM placement site.
Sr. Sheila Brennan, OP: I am a Sparkill Dominican sister. I graduated from Aquinas Institute with a MAPS degree in 2008 and completed 4 units of CPE at Laclede Groves in 2008-2009. Prior to this experience I taught Jr. High students and was an elementary school principal in the St. Louis Archdiocese. I also served as registrar at Aquinas Institute for 12 years. Presently I am working at Loretto Center, a residence for retired religious sisters. Here I assist the director and do pastoral care with the residents.
If a student is looking for a place of ministry in which the spiritual and professional are closely inter-woven, the Lutheran Senior Services Laclede Groves Community is a good choice.
